Raydon Estate Wines
The Borrett Family have lived at Raydon Homestead in Langhorne Creek since 1860 & have been growing grapes since 1915 on the floodplains of the Bremer River.
Joe (Barry) is the 5th generation of Borrett family & with his wife Colleen had 6 tonnes of uncontracted Shiraz grapes processed at Bleasdale Winery in the vintage of 1999 which produced approximately 500 cartons of wine.
The rich alluvial soil produces red wine grapes with an intense colour & flavour, due in part to the unique way of watering whenever the Bremer River floods which is controlled by a weir & a system of flood gates.
The Bremer doesn’t flow as regularly as it once did, so in 1995 a pipeline was put in to pump water from Lake Alexandrina during dry seasons.
Production doubled from the 2000 vintage and the estate's 'Tails South' Shiraz and 'Tails South' Cabernet Sauvignon have since won several awards.
Raydon Estate Wines are available by mail order via this website or at selected restaurants & bottle shops.
